About Tara

Profile picture of Tara K. Young

Tara has written two short stories, one novella, and four full length novels. More stories are always in the works. Sneak peeks can be found in Projects. Her ongoing fascination with the past has resulted in many of her stories containing historical or archaeological elements. Many of her stylistic inspirations come not from books or other forms of writing but from 3D animated movies, video games, anime and manga.

Growing up, she was obsessed with the work of Christopher Pike. Her current favourite fantasy series are Harry Potter (books), Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden (manga), and The Legend of Zelda (gaming). She had hoped to pen a Legend of Zelda origin story until Skyward Sword was released. She then conceded that the task had been completed perfectly and was no longer needed.

Outside of writing, Tara spent over a decade as a computing archaeologist. In that time, she worked on research projects from around the world, assisting in the archaeological research of Neolithic and Bronze Age hunter-gatherers in Siberia, early farmers in Japan, vikings in England, and First Nations and fur traders in Canada. She has excavated a Bronze Age cemetary, created computer models of sites and artifacts, developed GIS maps for navigation, and coded websites for the sharing of ideas and research.

Her other interests include drawing, computer painting, cross-stitch, knitting, hiking, and cooking.

She currently resides in Alberta, Canada with her husband, daughter, and cats.
